The number one military recruiting site that matches skilled military veterans with professional employment opportunities. Users include military veterans seeking new job opportunities and employers seeking to fill job positions.
Customer hired ViaOA in September 1999 to have a fully functional recruiting site available for Veterans Day on November 11. The founder, Ted Daywalt, was featured on a front page article in USA Today on November 11th. Due to publicity and marketing, the site received over 1 million hits the first five days and has been a success ever since.
ViaOA worked with an application designer, Sylvia Rankin from StudioSR Inc., to develop the sites User Interface.
The client's original plan was to use BEA WebLogic and Oracle Database and have multiple machines handle the requests. ViaOA did some preliminary tests and recommended using Java Server Pages, Microsoft SQL Server and New Atlanta's ServletExec as the JSP/Servlet Engine, all running on a single Intel based computer. A single developer from ViaOA worked with web designer to build the site and meet the November 11th deadline.
The system was developed to work with any datasource, and has been deployed using Access, which is only accessed by OAServer and not other client computers.
Customer has been using the system for over three years and has installed it throughout the country.
Prize - Reckonup

Successful software company that creates software for automotive dealerships for tracking sales, leads, service and financing. Previous version was a client/server built using Visual Basic and SQL Server. The demands of the system had outgrown the architecture and a new system needed to be built. The company had approximately 20 dealerships installed, and were having difficulties with system problems.
Customer created requirements for the new system and interviewed with a number of software companies about creating the new system. ViaOA was awarded the contract to build the system. The new system was to be a web based application that could be installed at dealerships, or hosted as an ASP type model. The requirement to be object oriented system and Java was determined to be the best language to use.
The new system was designed so that a company that owns dealerships can manage multiple dealerships all within the same system. Employees and customers could then access the system, each with their own individual access rights. Everything pertaining to a customer was tracked, including prospect information, sales, service, finance and dynamic profiling information built by the dealership.
ViaOA assigned one Architect/Developer who created the initial system. The Architect then worked with the customer's four in house developers to train and turn over the new system. The developers, whose background was mostly Visual Basic and C++ quickly learned the new system and were productive almost immediately. Our architect worked with an application designer/graphics artist to layout the functionality and look and feel for the new system.
Technology
The system was built using OABuilder to design and generate the custom Java Classes and the database structure.
Through working with their graphic artist to create the system UI, we then developed a JSP code generator to
generate over 85% of the pages used by the site.
The system was developed to work with any datasource, and has been deployed using SQL Server with future plans
to use MySql and Oracle.
Apache Web Server and Tomcat were used for the JSP Engine. No application server was required, even though competitive bidders suggested that it could not be built without using one.
Customer has been successfully selling the system for over 2 years and has over 200 dealerships installed.
The customer's developers have total support of the new system and use ViaOA on a consulting basis,
resulting in a successful transfer of knowledge and skills.
